Risālah fī al-insān mā huwa رسالة في الإنسان ما هو
- Scope & Content:
-
Anonymous metaphysical treatise on the essential nature of humankind, ascribed in the present volume the title [Risālah] fī al-insān mā huwa ([رسالة في الإنسان ما هو]). A deleted note (f. 118v, head margin) identifies the text as Kitāb al-Fuṣūṣ, attributing it to ‘the second master’ (المعلم الثاني, i.e. Abū Naṣr Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Tarkhān al-Fārābī [أبو نصر محمد بن محمد بن ترخان الفارابي, c. 870-950]).
The same treatise, sometimes under the alternative title Risālat al-Firdaws fī māhiyat al-insān (رسالة الفردوس في ماهية الإنسان), is also often spuriously attributed to Abū ‘Alī al-Ḥusayn ibn ‘Abd Allāh (أبو علي الحسين بن عبد الله), known as Ibn Sīnā (ابن سينا, latinised as Avicenna, d. 1037.
