This sluice, called periyamadai, is located close to the bank at the centre of the tank. It belongs to the village Arasamalai. The inscription refers to the establishment of the sluice Uḍaiyāṉ piṭakkaṉ mūvēnta vēlāṉ alias chōḷa cintāmaṉip pēraiyaṉ during the 27th regnal year of Rājēndra Chōḻa-I corresponding to 1019 CE. Inscription: Sri rājēn/ tira tēvaṟku/ yāṉṭu 7/ Svasti srī/ ikkumiḷi iṉ/ pēr cīkaranallū/ r uṭaiyāṉ pi/ rāntaka tēvanā/ ṉa cempiyan ku / ṉṟiyūr nāṭṭu/ muvēntavē/ ḷān srī ithu se/ yvittāṉ iv vūr uṭai/ yān piṭakkaṉ mūvēnta/ vēlān thā/ ṉa chōḷa cintāmaṉip pē/ raiyaṉ srī.
இக்குளத்தின் மையப்பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள பெரியமடை என்று அழைக்கப்படுகின்ற குமிழி குளத்தின் கரைக்கு அருகாமையில் உள்ளது. இந்த குளம் அரசமலை கிராமத்தை சார்ந்தது. இக்குமிழியை முதலாம் ராஜேந்திர சோழனின் 27ஆம் ஆட்சியாண்டில் உடையான் பிடக்கன் மூவேந்த வேளாண் (எ) சோழ சிந்தாமணிப் பேரையன் அமைத்ததாகக் கூறுகிறது. இதன் காலம் பொ.ஆ.1019. கல்வெட்டு: ஸ்ரீ ராஜேந்/ திர தேவற்கு/ யாண்டு 7/ ஸ்வ ஸ்த ஸ்ரீ/ இக்குமிழி இன்/ பேர் சிகர நல்லூ/ ர் உடையான் பி/ ராந்தக தேவ நா/ ன செம்பியந் கு/ ன்றியூர் நாட்டு/ மூவேந்த வே/ ளாந் ஸ்ரீ இது செ/ ய்வித்தான் இவ்வூர் உடை/ யாந் பிடக்கந் மூவேன்த/ வேளாந்நா/ ன சோழ சிந்தாமணிப் பே/ ரையந் ஸ்ரீ.
