Fragment of an astrological treatise
- Scope & Content:
-
Fragment of a treatise on astrology dealing with ascendants (طوالع), exaltations (أشراف), horoscopes, and calendrical calculations. The text contains three horoscope diagrams (ff. 122v-124r).
The text mentions the dates 16 May 1808 (f. 121v, line 23) and 1223/1808-9 (f. 122v, line 3), the dates 17 Muḥarram 1223/15 March 1808 (f. 123v) and 10 Dhū al-Ḥijjah 1222/27 January 1808 (f. 124r) are found in horoscopes.
A sheet of paper tipped in contains calculation regarding an eclipse of the Sun on a Thursday afternoon in Dhū al-Qaʻdah 1234/August 1819 (f. 125v).
The astrological tables listing the planetary rulers of hours of the night (f. 127r) and day (f. 127v), the signs of the zodiac (f. 131v), and the stations of the Moon (ff. 132r-132v) probably belong to this item, whereas the tables on ff. 128r-131r belong to the following text in this volume.
The tables on ff. 127r and 127v that list the planetary rulers of the hours of the night and day respectively probably belong with this text, since the text frequently mentions the planetary hours.
Begins (f. 119v, lines 1-3):

وباله من الدلو ٨ ويفرح برج القوس بيته أسد
