Two chapters on astrology
- Scope & Content:
-
Two chapters (بابان) on astrology taken from one or more texts:
- (1) Chapter of knowing the years by the stationing of the Moon in the signs of the zodiac (باب في معرفة السنين بنزول القمر في البروج, ff.146v-148v);
- (2) Chapter of the signs of the crescents in the Arabic [months] (باب علامات الأهلة بالعربية, ff.148v-149r).
The first chapter explains a method for predicting health, weather and agricultural events based on the entrance of the Moon into its various stations during the month of Āb/August. The health predictions refer to individuals rather than populations and are also based on the first letters of a querent's name.
The second chapter explains how to make predictions based on whether the crescent moon at the beginning of a given Islamic month is 'balanced' (معتدل) or 'if either one of its ends is raised' (إن كان أحد طرفيه مرتفعًا).
Begins (f. 146v, lines 2-7):
Ends (f. 149r, lines 11-15):
