Commentary on a didactic poem on calendrical computations
- Scope & Content:
-
Fragment of an anonymous commentary on an anonymous didactic poem on calendrical computations, perhaps by the astronomer ʻAlī ibn Muḥammad al-Dādasī al-Maghribī (علي بن محمد الدادسي المغربي, d. 1683; see note in upper edge margin of f. 186r: مأخذ من كتاب الدادسي مغربي). The commentary was composed in 1077/1667 (عامنا هذا وهو عام سبعة وسبعين وألف ...
Two authorities are cited: Abū al-ʻAbbās Aḥmad al-Māwāsī (?) , ff. 187v, lines 15-16 and 193v, line 10); and Abū al-Zayd ʻAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʻUmar al-Sūsī (أبو زيد عبد الرحمان [!] Both these authorities are said to have composed commentaries on the Garden of Blossoms (روضة الأزهار), presumably the Garden of Blossoms: Timekeeping by Night and Day (روضة الأزهار في علم وقت الليل والنهار), a poem on calendrics and astronomical timekeeping by the Moroccan timekeeper (مُوَقِّت) Abū Zayd ʻAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ghālib al-Lakhmī al-Madyūnī al-Jādarī (أبو زيد عبد الرحمن بن الغالب اللخمي المديوني الجادري, fl. late 8th/14th century).
After f. 193 there are two blank folios now foliated as ff. 193a and 193b.
Begins (f. 186v, lines 2-4):
Ends (f. 193v, lines 9-13):
