Scenes from Comus, for soprano, tenor, and orchestra. Words: John Milton. First performed 25 August 1965 at the BBC Promenade Concerts.
Early drafts. Pencil score for various elements of the work, including (1-5):
(1) 'Original opening' (1 bifolium) dated 20 February 1963;
(2). 'First draft' (22 bifolia). 'Draft started /4 Jan 64/14 March 65';
(3). Mixed draft score (dated 1963-65) including 'Dances', 'Prelude', 'Song / The Lady';
(4). 'Tenor solo' (2 bifolia) dated November-December 1963.
(5). 'New Plan for Prelude' – a single sheet of undated notes (words).
(6) Photostat copies of parts for soprano and tenor, revised in pencil with passages occluded by pasted-down blank sheets.
