First performed on 26 August 1969 at the BBC Promenade Concerts by Zara Nelsova (cello) and the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Colin Davis.
The file comprises two full scores and cello part (proof).
(1). Revised dyeline autograph full score marked 'Master Score' (pp. 1-92), annotated in red pencil and pencil. Physically ordered as two sections (originally saddle-stitched as such): pp. 1-58 and pp. 59-92. With a back cover page but lacking a front cover. Note: p. 58 is an additional folio hinged to p. 57, and p. 59 is also an additional folio hinged to p. 60.
(2). Dyeline autograph full score (pp. 1-92) in soft green covers with Universal Edition typed label on front cover stating 'Revised October 1970', signed by the composer. Copyright 1969 by Universal Edition (London) Ltd. London (p. 1). Dated at the end of the score within the dyeline copy: '20 August 1965-5 July 1969'. Occasional annotation in red pen and pencil, largely confined to revision of expression markings.
(3). Cello part, printed (proof). Copyright 1971 by Universal Edition (London) Ltd London. Engraved by PWM. Front cover [p. 1] and score (pp. 2-11). Written on front cover: 'Last Proofs Passed' and a note highlighting 'A query on page 8'. Front cover initialled 'HW' in red ink. The score is annotated in red ink throughout, many of the annotations ticked in blue ink as if attended to.
