Settings for tenor and piano of five poems by D. H. Lawrence: 'Dog-Tired'; 'Gloire de Dijon'; 'Kisses in the Train'; 'River Roses'; 'Roses on the Breakfast Table'. The latter two settings were added to an original sequence of three settings in 1994 and 2001 respectively (see dates of composition noted below).
(1). 'Dog-Tired'
- Undated and unmarked dyeline autograph score, 4 pages (1 bifolium).
- Partial photocopy score (2 sheets of A3 folded): the outer sheet is blank save for the title of the poem set 'for tenor and piano' and dates of composition and revision: '3 June-5 July 1966; July 1968; 1970; 10 March 1974' (the original from which the outer sheet is copied is not in the archive). The inner sheet reproduces pp. 3-4 of the dyeline score (here designated pp. 4-5 within the photocopy).
(2). 'Gloire de Dijon'
- Undated draft score, for the first verse only, in black ink and pencil (1 bifolium).
- Undated 4-page score of the complete setting, designated 'ink copy' on the outer front page. In black ink with some pencil and red pencil annotation (2 bifolia).
- An unmarked dyeline autograph score, for tenor and piano, dated on the front page 'February 1967' and 'May 1968', and dated at the end of the score within the copy: '24 May 1968' (1 bifolium).
(3). 'Kisses in the Train'
- Fair copy pencil score, for tenor and piano, on 5 pages (2 bifolia). The front page records the following dates of composition and revision: '13 April 1970-16 October 1982. Drafts: 23 Apr 70; 13 Apr 71; 1-14 Apr 73; 16-17 July 82; 9 Oct 82; 1 Dec 97'.
(4). 'River Roses'
- Fair copy pencil score, for tenor and piano, on 3 pages (1 bifolium). Dated at the end of the score: '3 August 1994'. Dated on the front page: 31 July-3 August 1994'.
- Typed words for 'River Roses' and 'Roses on the Breakfast Table' (1 x A4 photocopy sheet).
(5). 'Roses on the Breakfast Table'
- Initial pencil sketch, headed 'FINISH This one! 16 Nov 2000!' (1 folio).
- Fair copy pencil score, for tenor and piano, on 2 pages (1 bifolium). The front page records the composition span as '25-30 August 2001'. Dated at the end of the score: '30 Aug 01'.
