- Title:
- Hugh Wood: 'Musicians Wrestle Everywhere' ('Churchill Piece')
- Scope & Content:
-
A poem by Emily Dickinson set for SATB chorus and orchestra. An occasional piece, written for the opening of new Music Rooms at Churchill College Cambridge on 25 October 1980.
The file comprises:
- Full score in pencil. Fair copy: title-page ('Churchill Piece') and pp. 1-16, followed by unnumbered pp. [17]-[21]. Conductor markings in red pencil.
- Typed words (by Emily Dickinson). The words have been typed by Wood onto the verso of an incomplete copy letter (10 June 1976) to Michael Kaye (London Symphony Orchestra). The letter (incomplete, first page only) appears to be from Chester Music, summarising 'some of the topics which we covered'. A number of composers are mentioned, including Wood: 'It would be marvellous if either his CELLO CONCERTO or his VIOLIN CONCERTO could be programmed - I can let you have tapes and scores of these, if they would be helpful.'
