Commissioned by the BBC for the 88th Season of Henry Wood Promenade Concerts and first performed on Friday 23 July 1983 by the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gennadi Rozhdestvensky.
Dyeline autograph full score, annotated. Soft blue covers, with 'J. W. Chester' typed label on front cover. Comprising: title-page (on the verso of which the orchestration is listed), followed by pp. 1-205.
- I. Tempesta (pp. 1-48).
- II. Elegia (pp. 49-84). Loosely inserted at p. 79, a single folio of photocopy score with a small note attached: 'Dear H. I thought you would need this to see what you had done … if not, do please binit! R.' The photocopy score modifies bars 190-3.
- III. Scherzo (pp. 85-145).
- IV. Finale (pp. 146-205).
