Opus 22 comprises settings for high voice and piano of five poems by Robert Graves: 'Symptoms of Love'; 'The Visitation'; 'Fragment'; 'Ouzo Unclouded'; and 'Seldom Yet Now'.
(1). ff. 1-7. Complete set of five songs in photocopy autograph score: title-page and pp. 1-12, p. 12 blank (7 ff. originally taped together, 300 x 390 mm). Pencil annotations on f. 3 and f. 4.
(2). ff. 8-12. As black ink autograph fair copy (265 x 360 mm), three autograph settings which are the originals for the copies in the complete set above. With a different title-page:
- (f. 8). Title-page: 'Robert Graves Songs / Set II / Op 18'. The opus number has been struck-through and corrected to '22'. Two songs only are then listed: 'The Visitation' and 'Seldom Yet Now'. At the foot of the page, the date span '1966-1976'.
- (ff. 8v-10). 'The Visitation' (Op. 22 no. 2). Three pages of score, dated at the end of the score: '17-18 July: 1-16 October 1982'. Note: f. 9v is a partly erased pencil sketch for a setting of a poem by Laurie Lee ('Home from Abroad' - see Op. 25).
- (ff. 10v-11v). 'Symptoms of Love' (Op. 22 no. 1). Three pages of score, dated at the end of the score: '19-23 October 1982 / fair copy 8 Dec 82'.
- (f. 12). 'Seldom Yet Now' (Op. 22 no. 5). One page of score, without date.
- (f. 12v). Pencil sketch fragment of an unidentified setting.
(3). ff. 13-15. 'The Visitation' as a pencil autograph fair copy:
- (f. 13). Title-page.
- (ff. 13v-15). Four pages of score, dated at the end of the score: '17-18 July: 1-16 October 82'.
- Note: f. 14 is made from the pages of a bifolium adhered together at the edges, occluding an unrelated pencil draft.
