Four songs for high voice and piano, settings of four poems by Stephen Spender, Laurie Lee, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, and Christopher Logue.
(1). Op. 25 no. 1: 'Ice' by Stephen Spender.
- Autograph score in black ink: outer bifolium enclosing score within (pp. 1-6) on two bifolia (250 x 305 mm). Dated at the end of the score: 'January 1969 Glasgow / March 29 1973 Liverpool'. Drafted on the inner two pages of the outer bifolium is a pencil sketch of the setting, dated '24 February 73'.
- Scanned copy of an autograph score (a different original to the score above), which includes added score in pencil (2 bifolia: 320 x 360 mm). Dated within the copy: 'January 1969 Glasgow / March 29 1973 Liverpool'.
- Photocopy (incomplete) of a later autograph score (250 x 360 mm: 3 ff.). The score is lacking p. 3. Dated on the front page and within the photocopy at the end of the score: 'rev. 1 Dec. 1997'.
(2). Op. 25 no. 2: 'Home from Abroad' by Laurie Lee.
- 'Panopus' scanned copy of autograph score (2 bifolia:295 x 420 mm). Dated on front page and at the end of the score: '2-12 September 1982 / Copied 14 December 1982'.
- Second 'Panopus' scanned copy of the above score (3 folios: 295 x 415 mm) exhibiting three small pencil revisions.
(3). Op. 25 no. 3: 'The Blue Coat' by Yevgeny Yevtushenko (entitled 'Waiting' in the original translation).
- Dyeline copy score, dated within the copy at the end of the score: '8 March 1975 Liverpool' (4 folios: 270 x 325 mm).
- Autograph fair copy in black ink, undated (1 bifolium: 270 x 345 mm).
(4). Op. 25 no. 4: 'XI from Thirteen Love Songs [by] Christopher Logue'. Text taken from Logue, Wand and Quadrant (Paris, 1953), p. 26, beginning 'How am I poor tonight'.
- Autograph pencil draft headed '2nd draft LOW KEY' dated '15 January 83' (2 bifolia: 355 x 260 mm).
- Autograph pencil draft headed 'HIGH KEY' dated '18-19 January 83' (2 bifolia: 355 x 260 mm).
- Autograph score ('Panopus' scanned copy), dated at the end of the score within the copy: 'from drafts of 1959 /30 December 82-20 January 1983' (outer bifolium enclosing 2 folios: 295 x 415 mm). Scored as pp. 2-6.
