(1). Correspondence regarding the reduction for two pianos:
- Two autograph letters from Alan [ ] to Wood, dated 2 May 1991 and 9 May 1991. 'Rosalind asked me to do a two-piano score, which has given me further insight into the score! This will be ready (movements I/II) some time next week. Rosalind said put in everything, and I did try for a while, but the possible difficulties of engaging the three octopussies necessary to play got the better of me: it is now more or less (quite a bit less) playable, and does show most things, though some are left out.' (2 May).
- A further (humorous) note to Wood from A[lan], written at the bottom of an inverted mirror image from p. 6 of the reduction score: 'Thought you would like this! Is it better this way around?'
- An unsigned and undated typed note referring to specific details of the score.
(2). Printed reduction for two pianos (Chester Music Ltd, 1991). Movements I and II only. Annotated in red pen throughout (not by Wood). Designated as Op. 31 on p. 1. Numbered pages: 41 (295 x 420 mm).

Commissioned by the BBC for the 1991 Henry Wood Promenade Concerts. First performed on 10 September 1991 at the Royal Albert Hall, London, by Joanna MacGregor (piano) and the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andrew Davis.
