A setting of the poem 'Tenebrae' by Geoffrey Hill, for SATB chorus and seven instruments (flute, oboe, cor anglais, bassoon, violin, viola, cello).
First performed on 3 November 2007 at St. Stephen's Church, Bournemouth, by Canticum and Kokoro, conducted by Mark Forkgen.
The file comprises corrected printed proofs supplied by Chester Music, full score in pencil, and some draft score.
(1). ff. 1-4. Typed letter (24 August 2007) from Chester Music enclosing printed proofs of 'the prelim pages for Tenebrae' (i.e. title-page, dedication to Geoffrey Hill, and the text of 'Tenebrae' (a poem in eight sections).
(2). ff. 5-37. Printed score (Chester Music, 2007), pp. [1]-33 (paper size A4). Corrected in pencil by Wood who has dated each page (18-20 August 2007).
(3). ff. 38-72. Full score in pencil, scored on paper of different sizes (predominantly 295 x 420 mm). Some pages comprise small folio strips adhered together. Dated on the final page: '29 July 03. Copied 29 October 2003'.
(4). f. 73. Draft score in pencil (420 x 295 mm). Section I and 9 bars of Section II. Dated: 15-26 April 2002.
(5). ff. 74-76. Draft score in pencil (420 x 295 mm). Section VII. Dated: 19 June and 4 November 2003.
(6). ff. 77-80. Draft score in pencil (420 x 295 mm). Section VIII. Dated 10 July and 29 July 2003. N.B. f. 78 has been hinged onto the lower portion of f. 77, revising an earlier draft (which is still visible under the 'flap' of f. 78).
