- Title:
- Diary of the Reverend Arthur Copeman
- Scope & Content:
- Handwritten diary of the Reverend Canon Arthur Charles Copeman, recording his daily life.
Several long press cuttings are pasted into the start of this volume, recording a meeting of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in May 1858. The handwritten diary begins with the installation of Bishop Penham on 26 Jun 1857.
Further events of note include a review of an earlier lecture from the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel at the Norwich Assembly rooms on 20 Jan 1858. This section also includes some press cuttings relating to the lecture.
On 15 Mar 1858, Copeman climbed the tower of St Andrew's Norwich to witness a solar eclipse.
In Jul 1858, Copeman records the return home of his wife Mary Stephen Tibbets from an 11 week stay at a hospital. Unfortunately she did not recover fully and passed away on 1 Oct 1858.
Copeman also compiles annual statistics for his first few years at St Andrew's, Norwich from 8 Feb 1858 to Feb 1865.
This second half of this volume is blank apart from an index. However, it also includes some loose cuttings and draft correspondence, including:
- newspaper cuttings recording the death of Sir Gilbert Heathcote
- letters and cuttings relating to changes to the Norwich poor laws
- two invitations to local lectures
- a cutting providing a definition of a gentleman
