This item is a collection to India Political Despatch No. 61 of 23 August 1866, from the Secretary of State for India to the Government of India Foreign Department (the Political Despatch itself is not included in this item). The collection consists of papers forwarded with the Government of Bombay Political Despatch to the Secretary of State for India dated 28 February 1866, on the subject of the recent operations against the Wahabees [Wahhābīs] and the death of the Sultan of Muscat, including: the Wahabee attack on Soor [Sur] and the explanation offered by the Ruler of Nejd [Najd] on the subject; the circumstances connected with the death of the Imam of Muscat, Syud Thoweynee [Sayyid Thuwaynī bin Sa‘īd Āl Bū Sa‘īd], who is reported to have been murdered by his eldest son; and the operations of HMS Highflyer in the Persian Gulf.
The enclosed papers, dated 16 January 1866 to 27 February 1866, consist of correspondence. The correspondents are: the Secretary to the Government of India; the Secretary to the Government of Bombay; and the Resident in the Persian Gulf.
