This item is a collection to India Political Despatch No. 61 of 23 August 1866, from the Secretary of State for India to the Government of India Foreign Department (the Political Despatch itself is not included in this item). The collection consists of papers forwarded with the Government of Bombay’s Political Despatch to the Secretary of State for India, dated 8 June 1866 (received 12 July 1866), on the subject of: a letter from the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf (of 23 April 1866) reporting the result of a conference held by him with the envoy deputed by the Ameer of the Wahabees [Amīr of the Wahhābīs, the Amīr Najd] to settle differences; and further proceedings of the Government of Bombay relating to Muscat and Persian Gulf affairs.

The enclosed papers include correspondence, including: letters from the Ruler of Najd, Abdullah ben Faysal [‘Abdullāh bin Fayṣal bin Turkī Āl Sa‘ūd] to the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Lieutenant-Colonel Lewis Pelly; and letters from the Viceroy of Baghdad, Namik Pasha [Mehmed Emin Namık Pasha, or Muḥammad Amīn Nāmiq Pāshā] to HM Consul-General at Baghdad.
