Scope & Content:

This item is a collection to India Political Despatch No. 61 of 23 August 1866, from the Secretary of State for India to the Government of India Foreign Department (the Political Despatch itself is not included in this item). The collection consists of papers forwarded with the Government of Bombay’s Political Despatch to the Secretary of State for India, dated 8 June 1866 (received 12 July 1866), on the subject of the proceedings of the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Lieutenant-Colonel Lewis Pelly, during the recent quarrel between Muscat State and the Wahabee [Wahhābī] Power [Emirate of Najd].

The papers consist of correspondence, dated 14 March and 4 May 1866, between: the Government of India; the Government of Bombay; and the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf.
