This item is a collection to India Political Despatch No. 28 of 25 February 1867, from the Secretary of State for India to the Government of India Foreign Department (the Political Despatch itself is not included in this item). The collection consists of papers forwarded with the Government of India Foreign Letter Finance No. 1 of 9 January 1867, to the Secretary of State for India, received 7 February 1867, relating to an application submitted by the Resident in the Persian Gulf, Lieutenant-Colonel Lewis Pelly, seeking an increase in his salary to 2,400 Rupees per month, the amount which was paid before 1862.
The enclosed papers consist of: a despatch from the Secretary to the Government of Bombay to the Secretary to the Government of India, Foreign Department, dated 16 November 1866, with the letter from Pelly (dated 3 October 1866) enclosed; and correspondence between the Acting Secretary to the Government of Bombay and the Government of India, Foreign Department, dated 9 and 31 December 1862, regarding proposals for revising the salaries of the Political appointments at Aden, Bushire [Bushehr], Muscat, and Zanzibar.
The item also includes a ‘Memorandum on the proposed alterations in the expenditure of the Political establishments at Baghdad and Bushire’, dated 1 November 1870.
