This item is a collection to India Political Despatch No. 37 of 28 February 1867, from the Secretary of State for India to the Government of India Foreign Department (the Political Despatch itself is not included in this item). The collection consists of papers forwarded with the Government of India Foreign Letter Political, to the Secretary of State for India, No. 183 of 23 October 1866, received 22 November 1866. The Foreign Letter Political forwards papers concerning Muscat affairs, including the seizure of the principal fort at Muscat by Syud Toorkee [Sayyid Turkī bin Sa‘īd Āl Bū Sa‘īd], and the proposal of the Resident in the Persian Gulf, Lieutenant-Colonel Lewis Pelly, to proceed to Muscat in the steamship Berenice.
The enclosed papers consist of correspondence (by letter and telegram) between the Secretary to the Government of Bombay and the Government of India Foreign Department, dated 18 September 1866, including an enclosed letter from Hamud bin Saied bin Khulfan [Sayyid Ḥamad bin Sa‘īd bin Khalfān], former envoy from the Government of Muscat, to the Governor of Bombay, dated 23 August to 29 September 1866.
