This item is a collection to India Political Despatch No. 37 of 28 February 1867, from the Secretary of State for India to the Government of India Foreign Department (the Political Despatch itself is not included in this item). The collection consists of papers forwarded with the Government of Bombay Political Despatch to the Secretary of State for India, No. 80 of 13 December 1866, received 5 January 1867, forwarding papers relating to Muscat and Persian Gulf affairs.
The papers concern matters including: the granting of a subsistence allowance of 300 Rupees to Syed Toorkee [Sayyid Turkī bin Sa‘īd Āl Bū Sa‘īd]; the question of whether the British Native Agent who is appointed at Muscat should hoist a flag; the recognition of Syud Salem [Sayyid Sālim bin Thuwaynī Āl Bū Sa‘īd] as Sultan of Muscat; the payment of the subsidy due to the Sultan of Muscat by the Sultan of Zanzibar; and the appointment of Agha Mohamed Bauker Khan [Āghā Muḥammad Bakr Khān] as Native Agent at Muscat.
The enclosed papers consist of correspondence between the Government of Bombay, the Government of India, and the Resident in the Persian Gulf (Lieutenant-Colonel Lewis Pelly), dated 12 May to 20 October 1866. The papers also include enclosed correspondence from Sayed Torkee and Sayed Hamad ben Saeed ben Khelfan [Ḥamad bin Sa‘īd bin Khalfān], envoy of the de facto Government of Muscat.
