This item is a collection to India Political Despatch No. 37 of 28 February 1867, from the Secretary of State for India to the Government of India Foreign Department (the Political Despatch itself is not included in this item). The collection consists of papers forwarded with the Government of India Foreign Letter Political, to the Secretary of State for India, No. 117 of 30 June 1866, received 7 August 1866, forwarding: copies of despatches from the Political Agent in Turkish Arabia [Ottoman Iraq], Lieutenant-Colonel Arnold Burrowes Kemball, to HM Ambassador at Constantinople [Istanbul], Lord Lyons, regarding the arrival at Bagdad [Baghdad] of an envoy, Abdul Azeez-es-Saweylim [‘Abd al-‘Azīz al-Suwaylim] from the Wahhabee [Wahhābī] Ruler, Abdullah ibn Fysal al Saood [‘Abdullāh bin Fayṣal Āl Sa‘ūd, the Amīr of Najd], dated 24 April and 7 May 1866; and the letters from Kemball forwarding the copies of the despatches to the Secretary to the Government of India in the Foreign Department.
The despatches from Kemball include enclosed letters from the British Agent at Busreh [Basra, also spelled Bussorah in this item], William Pears Johnston, dated 4 April and 2 May 1866.
