- This item is a collection to India Political Despatch No. 1 of 6 January 1869, from the Secretary of State for India to the Government of India Foreign Department (the Political Despatch itself is not included in this item). The collection consists of papers forwarded with the Government of India Foreign Department Letter Political No. 187 of 14 August 1868 to the Secretary of State for India (received 14 December 1868). The papers concern the punitive measures taken by the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf against Sheikh Mohamed bin Khaleefa [Shaikh Muḥammad bin Khalīfah Āl Khalīfah], Ruler of Bahrain, the Ruler of Aboodabhabee [Abu Dhabi] and the Ruler of Guttar [Qatar] for attacks against each other. The collection was compiled for information purposes for the Secretary of State for India to compose the answering Political Despatch. The item includes a sketch map showing the general position (with plan, sections and elevation) of Fort Muharik [Arad Fort at Al Muharraq] in Bahrain (f 337). Also present is a sketch map of the entrance to the Persian Gulf showing the position of Ungan Island [Jazireh-ye Hengam] in relation to Kishm [Qeshm] (f 338).
