- Scope & Content:
- The third part of the volume (folios 1-56) contains a small amount of Anglo-Russian diplomatic correspondence in 1914, including one letter in French from the Russian Foreign Minister to the British Ambassador at St Petersburg, expressing concerns about British penetration into oil fields in the central Neutral Zone of Persia and thereby, in close proximity to the Russian Zone in the north of Persia. The adverse reaction of the Russian press to the Admiralty’s contract with the Anglo-Persian Oil Company for the supply of oil fuel to the Navy is also reported, in despatches from the British Ambassador at St Petersburg to the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs in London. Included in Part 3 is a second copy of Command Paper 7419 of 1914, which contains both the Agreement with the Anglo-Persian Oil Company Limited to supply oil fuel to the Navy and also the Final Report of the Admiralty Oil Commission on the Persian Oilfields chaired by Admiral Slade, together with two maps of the Persian and Persian Gulf oil fields.
