- Scope & Content:
-
These folios contain:
ff. 1r-102r: Bede, De temporum ratione, copied in the 9th century. Interlinear and marginal glosses in Latin and three glosses in Old English were added in the 11th century (ff. 33r, 39v). The table corresponding to the content of chapter XXII on the mathematical calculations needed for determining the phases of the moon is a lunar table (f. 26r): it lists the days of the calends, hours, ides and their positions within the year. Several interlinear musical notations of the 11th century were added above Roman numerals and words of this table except for October. It corresponds to a unique melody with mode changes designed for this lunar table (see: Alma C. Santosuosso, ‘Music in Bede’s De temporum ratione: an 11th-century addition to MS London, British Library, Cotton Vespasian B. VI’, Scriptorium, 43 (1989), 255–59).
f. 102v: lists of Carolingian rulers, Popes and Byzantine emperors.
f. 103r: a lunar calendar.
f. 103v: De horologio. Fragment of a computistical table.
Decoration: Decorated initial (f. 1r). Numerous rustic initials. Some of the rubrics has been highlighted, perhaps in red, but the colour is now oxidised. Rubrics in capital.
