Ralph of Coggeshall, Chronicon Anglicanum, from 1066 to 1224; this is the earliest surviving copy of the text, believed to be a working copy as it is written in various hands, one of which was probably Ralph's; there are numerous additions in the margins and on inserted slips of parchment, now mounted on paper, ff. 59, 61, 95 (see Gransden Historical writing (1974). Ralph was Abbot of Coggeshall from 1207-1218; his succession is recorded in the chronicle for the year 1207.
The last 3 folios (ff. 129r-131v) were copied in the middle of the 16th century.
The text is closely linked to three other copies of the Chronicon: London, College of Arms, MS Arundel 11, Cambridge, Corpus Christi College, MS 343 and Paris, BnF, MS lat. 15076, ff. 1-79.
Decoration:
A large initial in green with pen-flourishing in red (f. 40r). A large initial in red with pen-flourishing (f. 108v). Numbering, initials and rubrics in red. The 'M' for 'millesimo' in the dates to 1191 is highlighted in green (ff. 46v-51).

Origin: England, E. (Coggeshall, Essex).
Provenance: The Savigniac and Cistercian (1147) monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Coggeshall, Essex: an addition made in c. 1300 to another part of the manuscript refers to the foundation of the monastery by King Stephen (f. 45v).
Additions to the chronicle made in a 16th-century hand (ff. 129-131).
