- Contains letters from C. Douglas Hope to William Tooke and Thomas Crofton Croker on the British Literary and Scientific Life Assurance Co., with copies of their replies (Jul 1842), and correspondence on excising mentions of the Literary Fund from the Assurance's promotional materials between Croker, Hope and Octavian Blewitt. Also contains two press cuttings on the Assurance company (The Times, 11 Aug 1842; The Morning Post, 19 Aug 1842) and three printed copies of the company's constitution, the latest one of which presenting an altered text which excises previous references to the Literary Fund and includes a specific disavowal of any association.
