Contains an 1802 letter from ‘a subscriber’ suggesting the production of a portrait of David Williams, the Founder of the Literary Fund, with a poem addressed to Williams, and an extract from the Minutes recording the donation of a full-length portrait of Williams by John Francis Rigaud to the Fund by Williams’ niece. Also contains a note from John Bowyer Nichols, correspondence relating to the portrait being displayed in the 1868 National Portrait Exhibition (principally printed documents and letters from Maurice MacLeod and Norman MacLeod) and two 1880 letters from Matthew R Thompson to Octavian Blewitt relating to the portrait’s framing and restoration.
