Letter regarding Maharaj Suckul Singh whom Wright his receiving pressure to name as successor to the late Maharana of Oodeypore [Udaipur, Mewar], and Sohun Singh was has desires on the throne too but whose is considered by Wright as the soure of much disquiet in Mewar.
The letter also discusses Lt. Yate's boundary settlement work on the Meywar / Marwar boundary and Wright's hopes that he will have the use of a surveyor for the duration of the work.
A postscript to the letter encloses a translation of a reply from Maharaj Sohun Sing who Wright surmises is determined not to leave Oodeypore and enclosing Wright's own reply to this letter which is to be translated into Hundustaan.
- Reply from Colonel Wright to Maharaj Sohun Sing informing him that he cannot see him and will not alter his decision regarding this. The letter also reinforces Wright's orders for the Maharaj to leave Oodeypore and informing him that as he does not have a carriage Camels will be made available and that if he has not departed by that afternoon and officer and two companies will be sent to show him the road.
- Translation of a Khuruta from Maharaj Sohun Sing to Colonel Wright, 21 October 1874 in response to Colonel Wright's letter regarding his rights to the throne of Meywar and informing him that he is unable to depart as he has not carriage and asking for the departure period to be extended.
On the reverse of the correspondence is a note from Lewis Pelly, dated 31 October requesting that a copy of the correspondence be sent to Mr Aitchison and a further note, of the same date, confirming that it has been sent.
