Letter from Francis Warden, Chief Secretary to the Government at Bombay to William Bruce, Resident at Bushire
- Scope & Content:

Letter requesting that Bruce travel to Ruselkhyma [Ras el Khaima] to confront the chief of the Joasamee [Qasimi] over the recent acts of piracy committed by his tribe and to demand return of property, that reparations be paid and that offenders be punished. Included is a copy of a letter from Francis Warden to P H Bridges, captain of HMS Challenger, dated 8 September 1816 which describes recent acts of piracy in the Gulf and instructs Bridges to take the cruizers Mercury and Vestal under his command. The letter also sets out ways in which Bridges and William Bruce ought to proceed against pirates. This letter has the following 9 enclosures:
- Extract from a letter from David Charles Ramsay, Agent in the Gulf of Arabia, to Francis Warden, dated 26 March 1816, informing him that three ships have been captured by Joasemee [Qasimi] pirates.
- Copy of a letter from Richard Thomas Goodwin to Francis Warden, dated 5 June 1816, informing him that he has not been able to discover the owners of the ships captured by the Joasemee pirates.
- Copy of a letter from G L Prendergast to Francis Warden, dated 6 June 1816, reporting his attempts to trace the owners of the ships captured by pirates. Also relates an incident of Arab dhows being attacked in the Gulf.
- Copy of a letter from G L Prendergast to Francis Warden, dated 26 July 1816, identifying the boats captured by Joasemee pirates as the Futhek Moobaruck [Fath Mubarak], the Sufter Salamut [Safar Salamat] and the Ahmudee [Ahmadi], all from the port of Surat but under British colours.
- Translation of a letter from merchants at Surat to Sir Evan Nepean, undated, requesting punishment for the pirates who captured the three boats from Surat, and protection from the British. Signed by 31 individuals.
- Information received on oath from Abdoor Reezah bin Abdoorhoy, nakhuda of the Ahmudee, 24 August 1816, describing the attack of pirates on his ship. Includes a list of individuals killed by the pirates.
- Further information received on oath from Abdoor Reezah bin Abdoorhoy, 26 August 1816, giving further information about the pirates' attack on the Ahmudee, including a list of survivors.
- Information received on oath from Shaikh [?Jeraoolla], Steward of the Ahmudee, 27 August 1816, describing the attack by pirates on the Ahmudee.
- Information received on oath from Shaikh Takin, 28 August 1816, describing the attack by pirates on the Ahmudee.
