Telegram from the Foreign Secretary, Calcutta to Sir Lewis Pelly, Baroda
- Scope & Content:
-
Telegram, sent through the Indian Telegraph Company, informing Pelly that although the Viceroy deeply regretted the need for a public enquiry and the scandal that would bring the attempt to poison a representative of the British Government could not be overlooked.
The telegram also informs Pelly that the Viceroy feels it would be inappropriate for the Maharaja of Scindhia (Jayajirao Scindia) to be permitted to communicate with the Gaekwar of Baroda (Malharrao) owing to his position as a member of the Baroda Commission.
