- A group of individuals, comprising two families of slaves, started a civil action for their emancipation. Casimiro Antonio Porfirio and his mother Raymunda Maria dos Santos, along with Anna and her siblings Jezuina Maria da Gloria, Luduvina Francisca da Roza, Joanna Gonzaga Lameira and Ovidio Thomas d’Aquino, also representing their grandmother, Catharina, and mother, Margarida, as well their sister Virginia Paulina dos Santos, all slaves, requested justice to issue to them certificates of manumission. They claimed that their deceased master, captain Joaquim Gonçalves dos Santos, freed them all in his testament (attached). Since his death they were living together as free persons in a place called Bella Vista, on the river Laguna banks, Villa de Melgaço, Breves county. This plot of land had also been left to them in the will of their late master. Ludgéro Almeida Salasar, scrivener.
