The scene is described in the accompanying newspaper clipping: 'At Jamrood tea was provided in a shamiana in front of the fort, and officers of the Khyber Rifles and some of the leading Maliks [headmen] were presented to his Excellency...' A slightly distant view of the viceregal party gathered in the shamiana (tent with open-sided awning), with military escorts grouped in front. Jamrud Fort is not visible.
