Bombay Harbour. The South-West Prongs - a wave swept lightghthouse is over a mile from Colaba Point and accessible over the rocks only at low tide. It is still not sited at the extremity of the shore. Completed in March 1874, its cost was computed at only the value of one average sized ship and her cargo. Between 1830 and 1864 alone 22 deepwater sailing ships were wrecked at the approaches to the harbour. The only steamship to come to an untimely end here was a (?) Call Line frighter. That, too, was despite the lighthouse beam, temporarily obscured by fog.
