Alibagh (Garden of Allah) or Angria's Kolaba. Whilst these arch pirates had a durbar hall and other amenities at Alibagh, their residence was within the ramparts of Kolaba, just off the foreshore and an island at high tides. Forbes' Oriental Memoirs and Downing's 'History of the wars in India' give interesting accounts of the Angrias and the attempts made to reduce their stronghold, which, so it happens, remained a virgin fortress.
The main gateway faces the mainland, and the patch of beach before it is profusely strewn with gawdi shells, the kind used to decorate trinket or workboxes by local craftsmen. Note the doors, spike and studded, terepel the butting and battering of elephants.
