Bankote being a day's journey by 'bunder' boat from Bombay in the fair season, many of the European residents made a jolly excursion of it and continued in the same boats to Dasgaum at the head of the creek. From thence they finished their journey to Mahableshwar by land. The column in the picture below commemorates Mrs Malet, her child and a boat's crew drowned whilst crossing the bar when intending to visit that hill station.

Other names recorded in the cemetery are: Mrs Kennedy, the mother of Mrs Malet, but died some years before. Birkett (1770), Vernon Scott (1771), Blake (1812), also Carmichael, Morley, Fyfe, Walker, Master son, Maughan, Wake and Capt. B. Kingston 17th Regt. 1834.
