This sketch plan appeared in a 1758 monthly issue of the Gentlemen's Magazine. The scale given must be a mistake of cartographer's as the fort cannot be more than 800 yards from East to West, at its longest, and less from North to South. The Sahou Rajah (Sow Roger as corrupted in early English accounts) will be the Peishwa, head of the Mahratta Confederacy, whose government was seated at Poona. But the Angrias had long sought to establish themselves as independent rulers, using a title that had long since lapsed as a cover for their piratical activities. In fact they were as much a nuisance to their Mahratta neighbours as to European foreigners. To Ballajee Rao, Peishwa in Tulajee Angria's time, the latter was "That accursed fellow" and he combined with the Bombay Government in 1755-56 to extirpate him.
