Riari [Redi] Fort, The Konkun Coast. Photographer: Venn, Thomas Walters
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Landscape Photography
The low walls and bastions from the south. The citadel is high up in rear.
This stronghold was assaulted by a force under Sir Wm. Grant Keir. The stormers were from H.Ms 89th Foot. They were drawn up on the seashore opposite the breach made by the artillery, and under cover. The lower parts of ramparts were carried and the assault column got within half musket shot of the upper fort, when fighting for the day. The troops lay down on the line gained, awaiting the next advance at dawn. Sambajee Savant, however, surrendered before the next attack. All but fifty of his adherents had deserted during the night.
