Group portrait of Indian and European sitters. Samuel Bourne describes meeting the three Europeans at Chamba in 1864 ('the English Resident at the Rajah's court, the Government Conservator of Forests, and a missionary, all Scotchmen'), and these are presumably the three Europeans seen here. For an account of Bourne's visit to Chamba, see 'British Journal of Photography', 2 November 1866. Bourne himself has been identified as the figure seated on the left.
