General view of the Lalachand Modi Premchand Temple in the Modi Premchand Tuk, Satrunjaya. Photographer: Lyon, Edmund David
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Architectural Photography
E. D. Lyon, 'Notes to accompany a series of photographs designed to illustrate the ancient architecture of Western India' (Geneva, 1871): '637. - Ascending a few more steps after leaving the enclosure of Himabhoy Wakhatchand, and turning to the left on the Western extremity of the Northern summit, another enclosure will be found, inside which is the temple of Modi Premabhoy Salji of Ahmedabad as here represented. It was built in 1786 and contains 68 images of Adishwar and others. The architecture is a curious mixture of Jain and Musulman, the latter greatly preponderating, as the whole temple may almost be said to be swallowed up in the three large domes composing its roof.'
