Described in E. D. Lyon, 'Notes to accompany a series of photographs designed to illustrate the ancient architecture of Western India' (Geneva, 1871), p. 16: '640. - Shows in detail the south West corner of the great Chaumukh Temple, and gives an excellent idea of its curious architecture. It is as will be seen built on a platform raised about three feet from the ground, the porch or mandap here shown is composed of square pillars with their heavy capitals; on these is placed what is inside a flat root but which outside the architect has covered with the most incongruous domes, to say nothing of a miniature Jain-Gopurum or pyramid; immediately above these is a portion of the base of the main tower, which cannot fail to remind us of the temple of Bailoor in Mysore, while to the right and left are the balconies so often met with in the mosques of Ahmedabad.'
