Sculptured disk with Tikutiko Chakamo scene, and sculptured slab with the thrones of the four Buddhas, from the Stupa at Bharhut. Photographer: Unknown
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Architectural Photography
Showing the two carved pieces, probably photographed in the courtyard of the Indian Musem, Calcutta. The disk with the Tikutiko Chamako scene, also appears in print 2237. The piece appears to have suffered some damage, possibly during transportation from Bharhut to Calcutta: the pillar above and below the disk has disappeared in this view. The cleanness of the break, however, suggests that the piece was cut down deliberately. The carvings are reproduced as autotype prints in Alexander Cunningham, 'The Stupa of Bharhut' (London, 1879), plate xxxviii, 1 and plate xxxi, 4. See also print 2239. For another copy of this photograph (a later printing), see Photo 199 (53).
