The Jalamandir or Water Pavilion in front of the Sat Manzili, Bijapur. Photographer: Lyon, Edmund David
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Architectural Photography
General view of the structure, here seen in ruinous condition before restoration. Incorrectly identified by Lyon as the Mecca Mosque. India Museum no. 1437. Received from Captain Lyon, 7 February 1871. Duplicate print at Photo 1001 (3195).
546. - The road passes under the Sat Khund, but before following it the visitor should leave the path and making his way to the angle of the garden exactly opposite to that by which he entered, will find there a breach in the wall affording entrance in to a large enclosure overgrown with jungle to such an extent, that it is hard even to find a way about it. Immediately on entering on turning again to the left by dint of perseverance a view will at last be obtained of the small building here represented. It is said to be a part of the Makkeh Musjid built by Ali Adil Shah, while behind it may be seen the ruins of the Hall of Justice, where the Kings received the petitions of the poor. This Hall was taken down not long ago by the Rajah of Sattara on account of its dangerous state.
