Close view of base of north minaret of the Queen's Mosque, Mirzapur, Ahmadabad. Photographer: Lyon, Edmund David
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Architectural Photography
Showing intricate carved work and mouldings at base of the north minaret, with window in background. India Museum no. 1470. Received from Captain Lyon 7 February 1871. Duplicate print at Photo 1001 (3227).
Lyon supplies the following description in his 'Notes to accompany a series of photographs designed to illustrate the ancient architecture of Western India. Taken for Government and described by Captain Lyon' (Geneva, 1871):
579. - Shows in detail the base of the minaret of the mosque, also one of the windows. The stone is the brown trapstone of the country. It will be observed that the tracery has been here also as in the Jumma Musjid placed in the niches instead of the Hindoo idol. In every other respect the carving is Hindoo.
