[Studio portrait of Charles James Lucas.] Photographer: Bourne and Shepherd
- Scope & Content:
-
Full-length studio portrait of Charles James Lucas (1853-1928), the compiler of this album, in travelling gear and wearing a turban, holding a rifle and walking pole. This portrait was clearly made during the same session as the Bourne and Shepherd cabinet portrait at Photo 1224/8(1), which is described in one of Lucas' diary letters to his parents: '30 Decr. Monday ... After breakfast spent nearly the whole morning at Bourne & Sheppards [sic] the photographers, first having my photo taken in Kashmir dress then choosing views of all the places we had been to up country. I shall spend a small fortune on photos before I get home but they will be a lasting souvenir of the places we have seen, so it will be money well spent & will in a way assist me to explain what we have seen...' (Photo 1224/7, vol. 2, p. 206).
