View looking along the street, accompanied by a note in Griffin Hall's hand: 'A view along the Via Mazetta - Felice Church on the left. Casa Guidi on the right. All the living rooms of Browning's flat looked on this street. Two of the rooms — the sitting room and the adjoining one in which Mrs Browning died opened on the balcony — or 'terrace' — overhanging the street. It was here, reading the newly purchased 'square old book', that 'The Ring and the Book' was first imagined.
