Photographs and notes mostly of and related to Arezzo, Rome, Perugia and Castelnuovo, but also of ‘the square old yellow book’ relating the story of the trial and execution of Count Guido Franceschini for the murder of his wife, which Browning purchased in 1860 from the square of San Lorenzo in Florence (for which there are also photographs) and which suggested the poem. Additional quotations from Fra Lippo Lippi, The Statue and the Bust, and from Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s poem Casa Guidi Windows.
