Uganda. Winston Churchill addressing Baganda Chiefs, 1908 [sic, for 1907]. Photographer: Unknown
- Scope & Content:
-
Snapshot showing an unidentified European (probably the principal judge, a Mr Ennis) addressing the chiefs, with Bell and Churchill seated beside him. Churchill arrived at Entebbe on 18 November 1907 (not 1908, as the caption states), and was entertained by Bell, who found him 'very pleasant and stimulating,' although 'he seems to have a good many preconceived ideas about Uganda which I shall have to knock out.' This event took place on 22 November, and is described by Bell in some detail in his 'Glimpses of a Governor's Life' (London, 1946, pp. 168-70).
