- blue: hydrographical features, including the river systems of the Euphrates and Tigris, canals, marshes and lakes, and their names. Notes on the flooding characteristics of different geographical regions are also indicated in blue;
- green: agriculture, with rice cultivation marked in green, and other forms of cultivation marked in light green;
- brown: physical topography, including mountains and ridges;
- black: towns and villages, transport infrastructure (railways and roads) as well as place names and notes on topographical features.
