The map shows a region of eastern Africa around Jibuti [Djibouti] Bay at the southern entrance to the Gulf of Tajura, indicating buildings, hydrology and soundings, with short descriptions of vegetation and tidal conditions, and a brief note on tidal streams and anchorage. The map was compiled 'From French Government Surveys.'
Sheet 'No. 696-I., 95.' appears in the lower margin, and a printing statement reads, 'Intelligence Branch. Topographical. Dy. No. 1,163. Exd. C.J.A., March 1895.' A hand stamp reads, 'Intelligence Division 15 Jan 1896'.
